Competition Theme: Promote Truth, Refute Falsehood

KG Competition: 

      • Quran Recitation
            • Participants will be asked to choose and recite one surah from one of the following surahs:
                  • Surah Al-Kauthar to Surah An-Naas

        Grade 1 Competition: 

            • Quran Recitation
                  • Participants will be asked to recite one surah from one of the following surahs:
                        • For Public/Weekend school students: Surah Quraish to Surah An-Naas      

                        • For Islamic, Tahfizul Quran, or Home schooled students: Surah Al Adiyat to Surah An-Naas

                • Nasheed/Hamd/Naat
                      • Participants can sing a nasheed of their choice as long as the theme of the nasheed is about one of the following:
                            • Allah (swt)

                            • Prophet Muhammad (saw)

                            • Allah’s creations 

                  Grade 2 Competition:

                      • Quran Recitation
                            • Participants will be asked to recite one surah from one of the following surahs:
                                  • For Public/Weekend school students: Surah Quraish to Surah An-Naas      

                                  • For Islamic, Tahfizul Quran, or Home school students: Surah Al Adiyat to Surah An-Naas

                          • Nasheed/Hamd/Naat
                                • Participants can sing a nasheed of their choice as long as the theme of the nasheed is about one of the following:

                                      • Prophet Muhammad (saw)

                            Grade 3 Competition

                              • Quran Recitation
                                  • Participants will be asked to recite one surah from one of the following surahs:
                                      • For Public/Weekend school students: Surah Al Qadr to Surah An Naas

                                      • For Islamic, Tahfizul Quran, or Home school students: Any surah from Juz Amma

                              • Quiz:
                                  • Participants will be given a quiz containing 15-20 multiple choice, T/F, and short answer questions on the topic of ‘The True Deen’. In particular, the Quiz will  test reading and comprehension of the following book:
                                  • Text: Islam for younger people by Ghulam Sarwar, Publisher The Muslim Education Trust

                              • Nasheed/Hamd/Naat
                                  • Participants can sing a Nasheed of their choice as long as the theme of the nasheed is about one of the following:
                                      • Allah (swt)

                                      • Prophet Muhammad (saw)

                                      • Qur’an

                            Grade 4 Competition

                              • Quran Recitation
                                • Participants will be asked to recite one surah from one of the following surahs:
                                  • For Public/Weekend school students: Surah Al-Qadr to Surah An-Naas
                                  • For Islamic, Tahfizul Quran, or Home school students: Any Surah from Juz Amma

                              • Quiz:
                                  • Participants will be given a quiz containing 15-20 multiple choice, T/F, and short answer questions on the topic of The True Messenger In particular, the Quiz will test reading and comprehension of the following book: 
                                  • Text: Muhammad, the Beloved Prophet – A great story simply told, Iqbal Ahmad Azami, UK Islamic Academy. Lesson 1 through 13 and lessons 22 through 28.

                              • Story Narration:
                                  • Participants will narrate an authentic story that is based on Stories of the Prophets and Sahabas highlighting Truthfulness and Honesty
                                  • Recommended readings:  The Quran Stories for Kids, by Saniyasnain Khan, Goodword Kidz

                            Grade 5 Competition

                              • Quran Recitation
                                  • Participants will be asked to recite one surah from one of the following surahs:
                                      • For Public/Weekend school students: Surah Al-Infitar to Surah An-Naas

                                      • For Islamic, Tahfizul Quran, or Home School students: Any surah from Juz Tabarak

                              • Quiz
                                  • Participants will be given a quiz containing 20-25 multiple choice, T/F, and short answer questions on the topic of ‘Knowing the True God’.

                            Grade 6 Competition

                              • Quran Recitation:
                                  • Participants will be asked to recite one surah from one of the following surahs:
                                      • For Public/Weekend school students: Surah Al-Infitar to Surah An-Naas

                                      • For Islamic, Tahfizul Quran, or Home School Students: Any surah from Juz Tabarak

                              • Quiz
                                  • Participants will be given a quiz containing 20-25 multiple choice, T/F, and short answer questions on the topic of ‘Truth about Muslim Civilization’. In particular, the Quiz will test reading and comprehension of the following book: 1001 Inventions-The Enduring Legacy of Muslim Civilization, Chap 1-4

                              • Digital Art Competition
                                  • Using ProCreate, PhotoShop, Canva, PowerPoint, or any other artistic software platform of your choice, participants will create a digital art piece that reflects the theme of “Truthfulness in our daily life”

                                  • Recommended Reference: The Parables of The Quran
                                  • How to Submit: Email your digital product to info@lets-read.org by Sunday July 28.  Please use “Digital Art Competition- Grade 6” in the subject line.

                            Grade 7-8 Competitions

                              • Quran Recitation:
                                  • Participants will be asked to recite one surah from one of the following surahs:
                                      • For Public/Weekend school students: Surah Al-Mulk to Surah Al-Jinn

                                      • For Islamic, Tahfizul Quran, or Home School Students: Any surah from Juz 27

                              • Quiz
                                  • Participants will be given a quiz containing 20-25 multiple choice, T/F, and short answer questions on the topic of ‘Truth about Muslim Civilization’. In particular, the Quiz will test reading and comprehension of the following book:
                                    1001 Inventions-The Enduring Legacy of Muslim Civilization, Chap 5-8

                              • Digital Video on ISLAMIC Clicks
                                  • Using ProCreate, PhotoShop, Canva, PowerPoint, or any other artistic software platform, participants will create a digital art piece that reflects one of the following themes:
                                      • Best Practices of Promoting Truth on the Internet

                            High School (Grade 9-12) Competition

                              • Quran Recitation
                                  • Participants will be asked to recite one surah from one of the following surahs:
                                      • For Public/Weekend school students: Any Surah from the first half of Juz Tabarak

                                      • For Islamic, Tahfizul Quran, or Home School Students: Any surah from Juz 25

                              • Extemporaneous Speaking
                                  • Participants will be given a topic to speak on (for around 5 minutes) and will have 15-20 minutes to prepare. Topic Areas (Actual prompt during competition will be extemporaneous):
                                      • Universal Values, Truth as manifested in the Quran, Promoting Truth, Ways to refute Falsehood in Media, Politics, and Civil Discourse

                              • Multimedia/PhotoJournalism

                                • Theme: Perception in the Media vs Reality

                                • Participants will choose a misconception about Islam that is prevalent in media/society. They will then identify the truth and reality and refute that misconception using a short video of 2 to 3  minutes. Format: Present misconception, introduce truth, explain sources

                                • Final product needs to be submitted by: Sunday July 28
