Quran Recitation

Participants will be asked to recite one surah from Surah Al-Nasr to Surah An-Naas.

Grades 1-2

Quran Recitation

Participants will be asked to recite one surah from below, depending on their school:

  • Public/Weekend school: Surah Al-Quraish to An-Naas
  • Islamic, Tahfizul Quran, or Home school: Surah Al-Adiyat to An-Naas

Grades 3-4

Quran Recitation

Participants will be asked to recite one surah from below, depending on their school:

  • Public/Weekend school: Surah Al-Qadr to An-Naas
  • Islamic, Tahfizul Quran, or Home school: Juz Amma

Story Telling: Glimpses at the Golden Era (GAGE)

Participants will tell a story from the life of the prophet, companions, and the pious predecessors.
The theme should include one or more of Truthfulness, Honesty, Integrity, and other moral values.
The delivery should include the source, context, sequence of events, and the ‘lessons learned’ from the story. Time: 4 minutes max

Grades 5-6

Quran Recitation

Participants will be asked to recite one surah from below, depending on their school:

  • Public/Weekend school: Surah Al-Infitaar to An-Naas
  • Islamic, Tahfizul Quran, or Home school: Juz Tabarak

Quiz: Know Your Lord

Multiple choice and scenario-based questions on Al-Asma Ul-Husna (The Beautiful Names of Allah).

Grades 7-8

Quran Recitation and Meaning

Participants will be asked to recite one surah from below, and then will be asked about the meaning of some selected phrase/concepts from the Surah list (references TBD).

  • Public/Weekend school: Surah Al-Infitaar to An-Naas
  • Islamic, Tahfizul Quran, or Home school: Juz Tabarak

Quiz: Truth vs Falsehood in the Qur’an

Multiple choice and scenario-based questions about the following topics:

  • Qur’an Trivia – The concept of Haqq and Ba’til and their manifestation (Ayat) around us, as portrayed in the Qur’an
  • Foundational facts about Qur’an and it’s authenticity.

Grades 9-10

Quran Recitation and Comprehension

Participants will be asked to recite a selected set of Ayahs related to the Theme (TBD), and will participate in a Kahoot-based competition on the comprehension of the Ayahs.

Digital Video RASOOL (Revive a Sunnah, Organize Our Lives) Competition

Demonstration of a Hadeeth or Prophetic Sunnah on the topic ‘Truth Matters’ using a Digital Video of 3-5 minutes.
Learning Objectives:

  • Understanding the Hadeeth/Sunnah
  • Relating it to misconception/perception that is prevalent in media/society about Islam
  • Identifying the Truth/Reality and refuting that perception


Format:
They say … but the truth is … here is the proof.
Product & Submission: Video needs to be submitted by August (date TBD), emailed to info@lets-read.org.
Demonstration: On the day of the Competition.

Grades 11-12

Quran Recitation and Reflection

Participants will be asked to recite a selected set of Ayahs related to the Theme (TBD), and will participate in a moderated team reflection.

Shuhadau ‘Ala An-Nas – ‘Truth Matters’ Observatory

Build a ‘Promote Truth, Refute Falsehood’ observatory (a portal, website/webpage, or app) that will have any TWO of the following 4 components:

Expected Outcomes/ Learning Objectives

  • Awareness– Why people need to be vigilant when they deal with news/views?
  • Best Practices– What should they do to protect against misinformation/disinformation from the perspectives of ethics/morality, civic responsibility, and media literacy?
  • Fake Detection Toolbox– How can people use some tools, data/evidence in your chosen topic area to discern reality from fiction, truth from falsehood?
  • Debunking Viral Mis/Disinformation– Where to find authentic refutation of the specific misconception & How to act on that?


While there would be some generic approach, your product should be focused on the misinformation/disinformation on any one of the following topic areas:

  1. Qur’anic Worldview
  2. Religious Harmony and Tolerance
  3. Education, Science, Technology, and Religion
  4. Islam and Modernity
  5. History and Civilization
